The hip is becoming a more commonly recognized source of pain in individuals and athletes of all ages. It is often confused with back or pelvic pain and is often misdiagnosed. The most common diagnoses of the hip consist of femoracetabular impingement (FAI), labral tears, trochanteric bursitis, gluteus tears, snapping hip syndrome, instability, dysplasia, arthritis, and hamstring tendon injuries. Many of these conditions can be treated with hip arthroscopy if conservative measures and therapy fail.
Dr. Mantell specializes in hip arthroscopy and has been trained in the newest techniques to help alleviate pain and preserve function. This includes repair or reconstruction of a torn hip labrum with anatomical capsular closure, arthroscopic correction of FAI, repair of gluteus medius and minimus tears, and debridement of painful trochanteric bursitis.
